County/National Cross Country Finals - Sunday 3rd March
Fri 08 Mar 2024We had an amazing 10 children qualify to represent Melton & Belvoir at this years end of season combined County and National Cross-Country Finals. A special shout out to Hermione who qualified to represent Leicestershire. The children described the race as the muddiest and most challenging they have been a part of, but they all produced fantastic performances in what was an extremely high quality event, and they all came back with two trainers! Well done all, and thank you to everyone who has turned out for Cross-Country this year.

Swimming Gala
Fri 09 Feb 2024An amazing 16 schools supported 120 children with the opportunity to be a part of the Melton & Belvoir Swim Gala. An incredible atmosphere was created from schools positioned around the pool and spectators above, all cheering home each child that entered and exited the water.
Each child was required to swim 2 relays and 2 individual races made up of backstroke, breastroke, butterfly, and frontcrawl. Lane 5 saw team Waltham race purposeful for their school and their teammates, as well as the biggest of smiles.
Hugely proud of the efforts and attitudes that went into achieving a 6th place finish. A record finish in the pool for Waltham.
A big thank you to Dawn, the Everyone Active team, Melton Swimming Baths, Melton and Belvoir Sport, and our parent volunteers. Special thanks to Mrs Smart for her support poolside. A truly brilliant school sport event that showcases children’s skill sets in the water and the importance of swimming as a life skill.

Ratcliffe College Primary Schools Cross Country Festival 2024 - Saturday 27th Jan.
Fri 02 Feb 2024A record 17 runners turned out to represent team Waltham at this years Ratcliffe Cross-Country. It was a brilliant morning for children to develop their running engines, determination and perseverance when the going gets tough. The high levels of effort on show and even higher levels of support for each other helped produce amazing performances and 4 medal finishes. Huge well-done to all involved and a big thank you to the parents for getting the children to the start-line.

Cross Country Success at Mallory Park
Fri 24 Nov 2023Waltham has continued the excellent start to the cross country season with 9 children taking part in round 2 of the Leicestershire and Rutland Schools Cross Country Series. Waltham had 3 top 10 finishers including a second place. Well done everyone and good luck in the final race in December.

Year 5 & 6 Basketball Event
Thu 23 Nov 2023A great afternoon for this group at the Vale Basketball competition hosted by Redmile Primary School. The team were in the develop strand of the competition and they did exactly that. With each match came refined understanding of the rules and better communication on the court, improved passing and receiving skills to create shooting opportunities and increased confidence to dribble the ball under pressure and go for the rebounds. Great job all 🌟🏀

Santa Fun Run - 1st December 2023
Fri 03 Nov 2023Rainbows Santa Fun Run – Loughborough to Santa’s workshop
We will be joining forces with the other schools in our Rise MAT family by taking part in the famous Rainbows Santa Run as we aim to complete the distance from Rainbows Loughborough Children’s Hospice to Santa’s workshop in the North Pole to raise money for this wonderful charity.
Collectively there will be around 4000 pupils and hundreds of staff, running, skipping or walking the 2575 miles around sports fields, school halls and play areas to cumulatively complete the distance it would take to reach Santa in his workshop! As the famous Helen Keller once said “alone we can do so little, together we can do so much”. Which is why we know, by working together we can achieve this huge distance.
Mark Cole, CEO of Rise MAT, said: “Being a part of Rise MAT means having a commitment to the community and helping our children realise what we can all achieve if you work together. We want to provide our schools with the opportunity to work in collaboration with each other, and what better way to do so than with a fun filled Christmas themed fun run raising awareness and vital funds for an amazing charity!”
We will be completing our Santa Fun Run on Friday 1st December. We fully understand how there are many pressures on families, especially more so at this time of year, but any support you can give to this amazing charity, would be hugely appreciated. Every step and every donation, no matter how small will genuinely make a difference.

A brilliant morning of school sport for this group last Thursday, where 9 teams took to the Brooksby College pitches. Starting the day in true football conditions, Waltham began with a 2.0 win against Brownlow, followed by two more victories against Redmile (2.0) and Old Dalby (1.0). The final match-up against Bottesford would decide who came out on top and it was Bottesford who came away 1.0 winners in a closely fought contest. A great event for the girls to develop their dribbling, passing, tracking of players, working together as a team and enjoy the competitive sport environment. Huge well-done girls 🌟⚽

Silver School Games Mark Award
Fri 29 Sep 2023We are delighted to announce that we, Waltham on the Wold Primary School, have achieved the School Games Silver Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
Just some of our sporting achievements this year include:
- A fabulous sport’s day for all children.
- Commitment to promoting and providing physical activity across the school day.
- Leicester City FC providing football coaching to all children.
- Gymnastics, boccia and orienteering just some of the sports introduced to children.
- A commitment to providing a varied after-school sport’s provision.
- Key stage 2 children provided with opportunities to take part in competitive sport against other schools.
- Sport’s leaders delivering active playtimes.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
A special thanks to Miss Griffin and Mr Goldspink who have worked hard to create a superb sporting environment for all the children across the school.
We look forward to applying once again in 2024 and this time we are aiming for Gold.

Rise Multi Academy Trust brings together children from 21 schools for ‘A Night at the Movies’ in collaboration with Leicestershire Schools Music Service (LSMS).
Fri 28 Jul 2023On Tuesday 27th June, Year 4 children from across 21 Leicestershire schools came together at The Venue, De Montfort University to perform a range of hit musical songs to celebrate equality, diversity and inclusion. The children had been practicing for the past few weeks individually before coming together on the day for the first time to rehearse and perform.
Pupils only had one singing workshop with the choral leads from Leicestershire Schools Music Service; Nicki Atkins and Emma Burns, who organised and prepared the esteemed event, before coming together to form a 400+ Rise Choir, performing on stage in front of delighted staff, friends and family.
The spectacular event, forms part of the Trust’s commitment to providing a Pupil Charter for every child – offering opportunities and experiences that enrich pupils’ learning throughout their time at primary school. A parent commented ‘I felt so proud to be part of the Rise family of schools! Thank you for giving the children that opportunity.’ Another commented ‘The children were phenomenal! I sat there in awe of what I was hearing... Certainly an experience I will never forget’
The trust's vision is for each pupil to flourish and succeed, and that is what they did as they sang 9 songs from movies including The Lion King, Moana and The Greatest Showman, accompanied by an exceptional live band. The children shared some of their academic achievements during the year through a moving slideshow.
Showcasing their sign language skills, a highlight of the night was the children's performance of ‘Colours of the Wind’ from Pocahontas in which they sang and signed using British Sign Language the chorus of the song. This was important to both children and staff to promote inclusivity and diversity, one of Rise’s main visions.
A member of staff from one of the schools also praised ‘They have had firsthand experience of what it means to belong to Rise. Their confidence has blossomed in so many ways’, with another staff member saying ‘the children shared a love of music and feeling of belonging in the Rise family.’

It was a powerful example of how, as a Trust family, we can work together to achieve many amazing things, creating memories that will last a lifetime for our pupils.”
Julie Hopkins, Executive Headteacher of the Trust's Vale of Belvoir schools and project lead for the occasion, said: “I am so proud of how the children embraced this opportunity to work together as one big Rise family. They sang beautifully and it was clear to see the powerful impact the experience had on them and the audience. Special thanks to the many teachers who worked so hard to prepare the children”.
