Mars Food Day
15 December 2016
Sycamore Class had a real treat on Thursday 15th December when ‘Mars’ teamed up with the ‘Let’s Get Cooking’ team and came in for the day.
During the morning, the children played games to help them learn about food. The games helped them to discover if certain foods were reared, caught or grown. They then went on to discover all about the seasonal foods and whether they are grown underground, over ground or in trees. A tasting session then gave all the children the to opportunity to taste a variety of fruit and vegetables before they went on to learn about the different food groups and the benefits associated with each of them.
The afternoon session was all about letting the children get hands-on experience where they learned how to cut and chop vegetables and herbs safely before using their ingredients to cook a Risotto, which I think we all agreed was very tasty!
As an extra special treat, the children made cookies in bags and then took them home to share with their families.
The children all had a marvelous day and learned lots, too!
