‘Let your light shine.’ Matthew 5:16

Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Strictly Come Dancing Star teaches us Salsa

Robin Windsor leads our dance class

Former Strictly star inspires our children to keeeeep dancing!

As the new series of Strictly Come Dancing begins, lucky pupils from our school were inspired to ‘Keep dancing!’ by a former Strictly star.   This was a unique opportunity to learn from an accomplished professional dancer, to enhance children's passion for dancing and helped reinforce how keep to active throughout their lives.

We already have a strong commitment to dance in our school, as our specialist dance teacher, Cheryl Lobo, has been inspiring our children for many years and was a great support to Robin on the day. We are passionate about the many benefits to dancing; not only is it an incredible skill in its own right, but the fun and laughter is good for health and well-being. It promotes fitness and supports long-term memory, plus, it is a great opportunity to create lasting memories with friends and family.

Robin Windsor, a professional dancer who previously partnered with Deborah Meaden, Patsy Kensit and Lisa Reilly on the BBC One award-winning programme, taught each class how to Samba or Charleston, adding in a bit a free style and fun along the way. He selected star dancers to appear in a Strictly-style dance-off and winners were voted for by their class mates. It gave all children a real chance to shine, and the competitive element really saw some inspirational performances that no one was expecting!

The routine he taught our Y5/6 children, was the one he danced with Lisa Reilly live on the show several seasons ago.

Robin Windsor said how he had never across such responsive, well-behaved, respectful primary children before and was blown away with how quickly they picked up the routine. He added, "It's such a rewarding experience, because you get to see the children light up, they learn something new and their confidence builds throughout the day. I think dancing should be compulsory in schools, there are so many positive benefits!"

We certainly will keep dancing at Waltham!
