Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Press release: Chris Broad Opens Our New Hall and Classroom

On Friday 21st April, local legend, former England and Nottinghamshire County Cricketer, broadcaster and match referee Chris Broad, officially opened the newly built Hopkins Hall at Waltham-on-the-Wolds CofE Primary School.

Children, staff and parents attended the exciting occasion, eager to meet the special guest. Chris Broad took some really inquisitive questions from the children and gave lots of advice on how to work hard to achieve your goals.  He also very patiently spent time signing autographs for a long line of children.

Chris Broad said: "It was an absolute pleasure to come back to Waltham-on-the-Wolds CofE Primary School to open the new hall. I have a close connection to the village, particularly as my children Gemma and Stuart Broad attended the school and we lived just down the road in this beautiful village.”

Hopkins Hall and an additional classroom, were completed just before Easter, will provide the school with a much-needed indoor P.E. and Collective Worship space, as well a dining room, increased teaching and learning space and a place to host many other events. The school community is thrilled to have this new facility in place, which will undoubtedly enhance the learning experience for the pupils.

Executive Headteacher, Julie Hopkins, said: "We are extremely grateful to Chris for taking the time to visit us and officially open our new building and to Revd Martyn Snow, Bishop of Leicester, who provided a video of dedication to share at the opening. It has been a day filled with magical moments and has created memories that will last a life time. I am especially honoured to have the hall named after me and wish to thank all those who have contributed to making this dream building a reality."

Hollie Geeson, Head of School added: “The event was a great success and marked an exciting new chapter for Waltham-on-the-Wolds CofE Primary School. With this new facility in place, pupils will now have the opportunity to develop their skills in a range of physical activities and showcase their talents at various school events.”
